Following the process of maddering, the parts of the cloth with no fixative remain pink. The cloth was spread out in the sunshine in nearby fields to be bleached by the sun. The process involved moistening the fabric with water 7 8 times a day over several days. The building in the backgound is where the cloths were hung to dry
