Opuntia polyacantha SBH 7505b Yellow Flowers CATHCART'S BALSAMA Cistus introduction and a vigorous plant, growing to 15 18" tall x about 3 ft wide, with shaggy white to straw colored spines completely obscuring the pads. In mid to late spring saturated yellow flowers appear, each aging tangerine in time, giving a bi colored effect. Seems to flower best when allowed to grow as it pleases, so be lenient. Needs full sun, good drainage. Good in rock gardens, troughs, or containers. Frost hardy to 30F, USDA zone 4.
